The best months to visit Albania depend on what you want. For swimming, June to September. July and August are hottest and busiest. For walking in the mountains, June to early October. Winter is quiet, cheap and often wet on the coast, with snow inland.

If you want to swim and you dislike crowds, come in the first three weeks of June or the first three weeks of September. The sea is warm from mid-June to late October — it holds heat long after the air has cooled — and the Riviera in September is a materially different place from the Riviera in August.
If you are coming for the mountains, the window is narrower: the Theth–Valbona pass is normally walkable from roughly mid-June to mid-October, and snow can close it at either end.
The monthly climate tables on every place page in this Atlas are computed from thirty years of reanalysis data (1994–2023) rather than copied from a brochure, so you can compare Sarandë with Theth on the same basis. The pattern in outline:
Riviera beach clubs, many seasonal restaurants and much of the Ksamil accommodation stock operate roughly May to October. Guesthouses in Theth and Valbonë largely close for winter. The Sarandë–Corfu ferry runs year-round but at much lower frequency out of season, and the Koman ferry is weather-dependent in winter.
Cities — Tirana, Shkodër, Korçë, Berat, Gjirokastër — work in every month of the year.
