Albania and Greece sit on the same sea and their coasts look similar in photographs. Greece is more expensive and much more organised for tourists. Albania is cheaper and less predictable.

| Albania | Greece | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Materially cheaper outside peak coastal weeks | Higher across accommodation, food and transport |
| Infrastructure | Improving quickly; still uneven | Mature and predictable |
| Islands | Very few; Sazan is restricted | The defining feature of the country |
| Beaches | Pebble on the Riviera, sand in the centre and north | Enormous range across the islands and mainland |
| Archaeology | Butrint, Apollonia, Byllis — quiet and underrated | Among the densest concentrations in the world |
| Crowds | Concentrated on a short coast in a short season | Spread across a much larger area |
| Getting around | Car effectively required | Ferries, buses and domestic flights work well |
| EU / Schengen | Outside both | In both |
